They can be found in Australia and their scientific name is Nymphicus Hollandicus. From the beak to the end of the tail feathers, cockatiels grow to about 12 inches in length. Cockatiels in captivity usually live between 10 and 20 years.

Most of the handfed Cockatiels have a very equilibrated and sweet temperament. Their nature is inquisitive and curious nature and they will bond closely with the owners and show a lot of affection. These birds are quite intelligent and highly sociable and enjoy playing with their human friends. If they are properly stimulated, they can be quite easy to care for and they can be wonderful companions.

Some of the Cockatiels colors are: Grey, Cinnamon, Lutino (yellow), Pearl, Whiteface, Albino (white), and Fallow. Each day you can find new color varieties showing up, so people have a lot of choices when they want to buy one.

It is best to feed captive Cockatiels with a diet of pellets of high quality and seeds, as well as a great variety of vegetables and fresh fruits. Once in awhile, they enjoy eating pieces of cereal and they will make nice treats.

Cockatiels can be very active birds. This is why try to allow them time outside the cage, if possible every day. They will use the time to explore, play, and stretch their wings.

The Cockatiels have been keept in the the homes of bird lovers for a lot of years and they will continue to do so due to their high trainability and engaging personalities. Many breeders consider them the best species to have.

If a Cockatiel is cared for and bred properly, it can be a very affectionate and fascinating pet. Because of their curious playfulness and friendly dispositions, these little birds are well recommended for the owners who never had a bird before or have little experience.

Also, another great fact is that Cockatiels are part of the parrot species, and they can mimic. In some cases the Cockatiels will learn some words, but in most cases they will just make noise and whistle. Remember that they can imitate doorbells and ring tones quite well.

Like all parrots, they like to be around their owners and like to interact. In order to keep them happy, try to handle them, talk to them and play every time you get the opportunity.
