Great Bible Reading Tips
Lots of people would like to read the Bible regularly. Many have great intentions, but very few actually make a life time habit out of it. Why does this happen? And what makes those who make a habit out of reading their Bible?s different? The reasons can be found in a few easy steps that we will look at in this article.
To begin with, many people just don?t set aside the right amount of daily time to make a lifelong habit out of reading the Word. Lots of people show a strong desire to want to spend time with God in the Word, but just having a desire doesn?t do much. Countless people want to stick to a dieting plan, but very few can. For you to have a positive experience with your Bible reading, you have to be regular about it. I think setting aside about twenty minutes a day for a month is right to begin with.
Additionally, it?s important to have a place to read the Bible apart from any distractions. Get away from the internet, TV and the radio. Make sure there is no noise or visual clutter. Get to a place that you can read without being disturbed.
Now, make sure you own an understandable version of the Bible. Getting a modern English version isn’t hard. The New Living Translation or (NLT) or the New International Version (NIV) are great and easy to read. If you can’t understand the sentences you are reading, you won’t understand the main thought of the passage. Since this is frustrating, be sure to get a Bible translation that is easy for you to read and understand.
Then, begin your reading of the Bible in a book that is easy to understand. You don’t have to start your Bible reading in the beginning of the Bible. You can start in the Gospel of John, which is one of the easier books to comprehend.
Something helpful to have around is a notebook and a pen or pencil. Keep track of the thoughts and questions that come to your mind as you read. Doing this will help you be able to keep reading without getting distracted by one question or concept. Later on, you can take your questions to a pastor or a mature Christian.
It is very important to come to your Bible reading with a heart of submission. The Bible is a very special book because God himself gave it to us. The best way to read it is with a humble attitude so that you can grow in your relationship with him. Take a second and stop and pray before you begin to read. Pray that God would help you understand what you are going to read and allow it to change you. God answers this kind of prayer.
The Bible is a wonderful resource for spiritual growth. With these tools, you will learn to understand and apply all the riches of the Word of God for yourself.
