Importance Of Ceremonies In Christian Funerals
For a devout Christian, a funeral is a celebration of the soul\’s journey towards eternal life from thereon. It\’s the main reason why Christian funeral services are highly spirited because of the belief that the departed has found an eternal home in God\’s house.
It is a Christian belief that death is a good thing-the departed finally gets released from the world of pain and goes into the path of everlasting happiness. That the deceased is finding happiness in heaven and is with the Lord Himself is a relieving thought that lessens the pain of the shock that death brings to family and friends.
Generally, a priest is the prime official at a Christian funeral ceremony. The services are often held at the very church that was visited by the deceased during his lifetime. Usually the services don\’t have casket, but when the service is being held in a funeral home, caskets are very often present. Viewing of the corpse is generally not found in a typical Christian funeral service.
The proceedings in such a funeral ceremony are more like a memorial, in which devotional songs and prayers are sung and texts from the Bible are read out. After this comes a short elocution from the pastor and subsequently a mass prayer by people who have gathered there.
Then the assembled people partake in the sorrow of the family as well as close friends and talk about their personal experiences as to how the dead person has influenced them and left an everlasting impression on their minds. People nowadays do a slide show of pictures or play a recorded video of the dead person taken when he was alive.
The ceremony finally ends with a brief fellowship reception at the church, where food is served. A service at grave is generally not included, though some Christian communities opt for that as well.
