Is End of World 2012 a Myth or a Reality?
Certain individuals have begun spreading internet rumors about an impending apocalypse to visit the earth on December 21, 2012. The rumors have caught on like wild fire prompting many people to wonder if they and their family are in any danger. Here are some keys facts to consider if you are worried about the end of the world in 2012.
The claim that apocalypse will occur in 2012 is based on the calendar of the Mayans. The Mayans, whose civilization disappeared centuries ago, were renown for the precision of their astronomy and, especially, their calendar. This calender will run out on December 21, 2012 leading some to postulate that a disaster will happen on this day.
But, luckily there is not a good reason to subscribe to this theory. Take a look at the evidence. Because the Mayan calendar comes around every 5200 years then the world should have experienced a disaster 5200 years ago which it did not.
2012 Apocalypse predictors sometimes allude to the fact that Nostradamus predicted a 2012 Doomsday scenario. This is simply not true. Nowhere in the many volumes of prophecy produced by Nostradamus does the year 2012 occur. It is simply never mentioned by Nostradamus.
There are still many who believe that the world will end in 2012. What do these doomsdayers think will be the cause of the apocalypse? There are many theories floating around in the ether but one of the most common suggests that an interstellar collision will cause the destruction of humanity.
While it is conceivable that a collision in deep space could occur there is not much evidence to support these claims. While some 2012 experts predict that a large body known as Planet X will collide with earth the mainstream community of astronomers assures us that there is no such planetary body on a collision course with earth.
What then is the motivation for these people to predict the end of the world for 2012? The best guess is that the motivation is financial.
The history channel makes money though advertising while running its specials about the 2012 doomsday scenarios. And many authors have written books and survival guides detailing how to survive the coming disaster. These authors make royalties every time one of their books is purchased.
So, the primary question for people who are thinking about this 2012 controversy, is is it benefiting the predictors of doom? I realize that many people who have heard about this predictions are scared and confused. The key point is to come to the conclusion that there is not very good evidence that suggests the world will, in fact, end in 2012.
