Jehovah’s Witness Beliefs, Practices and Modern History Detailed in 1993 Book

Written by John Scott on Jan 2nd, 2010 | Filed under: Religion

Jehovah’s Witnesses Proclaimers of God’s Kingdom is a 750 page book that is published by Jehovah’s Witnesses which gives a detailed history of the organizational history; and many other details along with a section on a history of persecution Christians in history and modern times have experienced, and problems within the organization itself. This reference work is quite detailed and is complete and includes a six pages of chronological history from the 1870s until more recently. It has 33 chapters, and includes a twenty-four page index.

While it was written by Jehovah’s Witnesses, it does not gloss over or omit problems throughout the modern history of Jehovah’s Witnesses which goes back around 140 years, but it gives an honest account of even the weak points, and mistakes of the religion in addition to providing a positive and factual synopsis of the religious roots; history; roots; history, and integrity of thousands who have endured persecution for their convictions. While the present day statistics might be somewhat outdated, having been written about 17 years ago, the reference work takes you far enough along in the modern history of Jehovah’s Witnesses, to leave the reader up to the present stages of development among Jehovahs Witnesses. Also featured are hundreds of photographs and illustrations, including a one page photo section of modern Governing Body who were alive at that time. Only two members of the Governing Body in 1992 are still alive today. The Governing Body today, consisting of nine members, is for the large part new. For anyone who is doing research on the subject of Jehovah’s Witnesses, or might have questions related to the history or organization, it is an honest and complete reference work. It is a good addition to college or university library and can give researcher a point of reference from which he or she can verify points of interest or discussion concerning the Jehovah’s Witness religious beliefs and structure.

It is factual and modest and is not self-aggrandizing in any way. It contains Biblical background for the history of Christianity, the persecution they experienced, and a brief summation of the Bible story and theme.

Jehovah’s Witnesses are largely known for their zealous preaching, which they continue to do in imitation of first century Christians but especially after World War I until today, and an account of the reasons for that work, as well as how and what it has accomplished is detailed in this book. Jehovah’s Witnesses consider themselves to be, and are generally considered to be, fully a Christian religion, which revolves around the teachings of Jesus Christ and his Jesus his life and ministry. It is believed that the theme of Jesus preaching was God’s Kingdom according to the Greek Scritpures or New Testament and so the title of this book, “Jehovah’s Witnesses, Proclaimers of God’s Kingdom.”

“This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.” Matthew 24:14, Jesus Christ.
