Stress Relief Work Through These Stress Busters

Written by Jonathan Park on Oct 14th, 2009 | Filed under: Stress Management

Wherever we work, we always encounter stress. Stress may stem from different circumstances or situations we face while we do our respective duties or from what we perceive as to how we perform. Stress is actually helpful since it triggers our fight or flight response, thus allowing us to work faster and giving us more stamina and strength by producing amounts of adrenalin. But if left unchecked, our body goes into overload, which breaks us physically and mentally.

Since stress in the workplace is unavoidable we should always make sure that it does not accumulate and cause problems in our performance. Here are some tips that will immediately disperse the stress/es that you are dealing with:

Take a deep breath: When you are starting to feel stress building up, pause for a minute and take a deep breath. Taking a deep breath or two will add oxygen into your system allowing you to feel relaxed almost instantly. Taking a deep breath will also help you maintain your composure, which in the long run, is really what you need to get through a stressful situation.

Know your limits: There are some things that you can do and there are some things that you cant. Some of the pressures or stresses that we feel in the office might be the result of our own actions. If you think that you have enough worked lined up for the day dont try to impress your bosses more by taking in more than you can handle. Committing yourself to tasks which you cannot guarantee to finish will only give you more things to worry about, adding up to the stress that you already feel.

Take a break: Regular short breaks allow your body to relax and recharge even just for a few minutes. This gives you more energy and a clearer mind by the time you get back to work. It is best if you leave your desk. Take a walk. Get a cup of coffee. Stay in the pantry. Talk to friends. Break the monotony of your work.

There are a lot more things you can to do to deal with stress at work. The good thing is there are practices you can do right then and there in the workplace. There is no need to go anywhere or shell out cash to relieve your self of stress. The important thing is that you recognize and know how to deal with the stressors that come your way.
