Ireland has been good for gay vacations at least since the time of Oscar Wilde, although in those days it was not necessarily a friendly country for the LGBT community. Like Wilde, many people were jailed or sent away for hard labor for what was legally termed “indecency” and, until 1861, acts of sodomy were even punishable by death, but Ireland has come a long way since these dark days, decriminalizing same-sex sexual behavior in 1993 and legalizing civil unions in 2009.

While this does not mean that this largely Catholic country is ready to embrace same-sex relationships in every village – or even every city – Ireland is now far more welcoming and can safely be considered a great place for gay travel. Several larger cities, including Dublin, Galway, Cork and Waterford, have visible, active communities, community celebrations, numerous establishments catering or welcoming to the community and plenty of attractions to fill an entire vacation; however, whether travelers choose to participate in solo travel or gay tours, one should not miss the Irish countryside and quaint, traditional villages that dot the verdant landscape or sit atop breathtaking coastal cliffs during their vacation to Ireland as well.

Although many cities in Ireland now have community hangouts, organizations, annual community celebrations and an active LGBT community, Dublin reigns supreme as the center of Ireland’s LGBT scene, making it a must-do for anyone planning gay travel here. Dublin’s nightlife is a blend of both casual pubs and high-class clubs – some even with dress codes – which offers folks on gay vacations the opportunity to experience vastly different aspects of the local community. Dublin is also well known for a variety of community festivals held throughout the year, which include the Dublin Gay Theatre Festival in May, Dublin International LGBTQ Pride in June, and the Dublin Lesbian and Gay Film Festival in July.

Other happenings throughout the year are listed in Ireland’s most popular community magazine, GCN, so those who want to experience the scene during Dublin gay vacations will want to grab a copy when they get to town. Eating mounds of food seems to be part of our culture. And a lot of this food is consumed at restaurants because of time famine. Now, if you decide to not eat out, your social life might take a major turn for the worse.

The good news is that you don’t have to take such drastic measures.

So without further delay, here are 5 tips for losing weight when eating at restaurants:

1. Have some olive oil: Research studies have shown that consuming olive oil during a meal leads to less calories consumed. So get a salad with some olive oil and vinegar. Even better, olive oil is a strong anti inflammatory.

2. Be suspicious of the sauces: Many times there is little if any information about the sauces that come with a dish. And it’s usually the sauces that pack the caloric punch. So even if you think a meal is healthy, the sauce may make it extremely unhealthy.

3. Load up on carbonated drinks: Drinking calorie-free carbonated drinks before your food arrives is a great way to feel fuller before beginning to eat. You see, mechanoreceptors in your stomach respond to volume. So increasing volume without food is a great way to eat less food.

4. Have soup: Soup is very filling because it has so much water. So if you order a healthy soup, you will feel full with minimal caloric load. Even better, order the soup with extra vegetables for maximum impact.

5. Be careful with side dishes: Although small, side dishes can have more calories than your main course. So make sure you stay away from them and focus on your main meal. Doing so will help you keep track of how much you have eaten.

You can stay in shape or even get in better shape when eating out. The key here is to make smart decisions that prevent the caloric load. Doing so will let you have a vibrant social life while not feeling like a prisoner.

We all know that feeling of being dog tired, but sleep just won’t come. It has the knock on effect of you being exhausted the next day and literally having to drag yourself from your bed. Here are a few things you can try to improve the situation.

Turn off your TV or anything else that is causing you to think, such as a laptop etc. You may think that these will help you fall asleep but in fact they are keeping your mind active.

You are preventing yourself from sleeping as however relaxed you feel, you are concentrating on that TV show etc. Turn them off and you turn off your brain.

Now this is a tip that students use when they need to study. Get yourself a non fiction book that is full of facts but has zero entertainment value. Your brain recognizes how boring this is and shuts itself down, enabling you to fall asleep.

You need to so something to make you tired and physical exercise that really pushed you is the best way to do this. Your mind and your body will both switch off through exhaustion.

Although some people say all exercise will do this, I tend to stick to cardio and resistance work. Yes I have that buzz immediately afterwards, but by the evening my body is crying out for sleep.

If you are visually assisted, remove your glasses or contacts before you go to bed, there are two reasons for this.

After wearing these all day your eyes need to rest too. By nor forcing them to stay open to watch TV etc they will relax and close easily.
