Things You Should Know About Schizophrenia

Written by Anne Durrell on Jul 17th, 2009 | Filed under: Stress Management

It is very important for people suffering from Schizophrenia or those who know someone suffering from it to know what is Schizophrenia, since it is an acute mental illness.

Warning Signs

Symptoms of the disease can vary, but most often schizophrenia is easily recognized because of the severity of the symptoms. Common symptoms include:

* Illusions

* Phantasms

* Strange behavior

* Long-winded speech

* Not have any motivation

* Drop off in overall cognitive function

* Not have any emotions

Very often people who are suffering from Schizophrenia and are not being treated will not be able to finish any job, communicate with people or even function correctly on a daily basis without any assistance.

People with Schizophrenia will appear different and very abnormal from other people. It is not difficult to find out what is schizophrenia after it has reached climax status.

Therapy

Treatment will be based upon the person’s symptoms and how they react to different methods of treatment. Some ways schizophrenia is treated include:

* Pills

* Education

* Therapy

* Get treatment in the hospital

* Special treatment

Many people have problems accepting therapy or working with other people to get through treatment. Especially since Schizophrenia cannot go away, so it is very important for a person who has Schizophrenia to simply accept the therapy and just stick with it.

Medication is given on a trial and error basis so it can take time to find what works. During this period therapy and other treatment may be necessary.

It is usually very difficult for someone to alter to how much his or her life changes once Schizophrenia begins to present itself. Knowing what Schizophrenia is can help someone as well as his or her loved ones to know how to get through life and deal with the situation.

Through careful treatment and work, though, a person with schizophrenia can live a normal life. There is no reason why someone has to end up homeless or lost in their own mind.
