Three Ways On How To Cure Stress

Written by Jamie Sue Tan on Nov 17th, 2009 | Filed under: Stress Management

Curing stress is a lot more complicated than it seems. The basic idea in curing stress is to change some aspects of your life so you would not get into or get stuck in the same exact situations. Some situations cause us stress, but sometimes we get ourselves in those situations. More often than not, we even create those kinds of situations then get ourselves into it.

As an example, let’s take a look at your organization or group or office. Look at the prioritization skills. Is it there? Is it effective? Sometimes the way we organize and prioritize our activities influences the stress and the amount of it that we will be dealing with for the day. This doesn’t necessarily mean that knowing how to prioritize and organize will totally eliminate stress. It simply means that the things that may potentially cause stress have been anticipated and the steps to counter them have been thought of, making it easier to deal with them.

For those situations that require immediate stress relief, there are a lot of methods you can try, but the levels of effectiveness will be unique to each person. It is important that you find stress management techniques that fit you personally; after all, the situations and needs that we have are uniquely different for each. Here are 3 or the most effective stress relievers that you can try when starting to feel overwhelmed:

Deep Breathing: Deep breathing means taking a few deep breaths from the abdomen and not from the chest. This oxygenates your body and gives you an almost immediate relaxing feeling.

Take a break: Had enough? Try taking a break even just for a few minutes. A breather is all your body and mind needs so you can regain focus. The further away from your stressor, the better; while there are exceptions, of course. If you can’t leave the office, go somewhere. Grab a glass of water. Go to the restroom. Temporarily increase the distance between you and your desk.

Listen to Music: Listening to music can release any stress and tension that you may be feeling. Any genre will do as long as you find it soothing. The objective of listening to music is to take your mind off of the stress for the meantime and refreshing your mind before going back to work.

Of course there is no one solution fits all when it comes to stress. You will need to take the method that you feel most comfortable and easy for you.
